Zanzibar Island Holiday Packages

The Beautiful Island Of Zanzibar On Africa’s East Coast Is Bursting With Culture And History. Zanzibar’s Coastline Offers Some Of The Best Beaches In The World.

Known as
the Spice Island.

Known as the Spice Island, the beautiful island of Zanzibar on Africa’s east coast is bursting with culture and history, seemingly at odds with its idyllic geography of white-sand beaches with palms swaying lazily in the sea breeze. Together this makes Zanzibar a fabulous place to explore as well as a dream to relax and unwind.

Zanzibar’s coastline offers some of the best beaches in the world, but sand and surf vary depending on what side of the island you’re on. On the east coast, waves break over coral reefs and sand bars offshore, and low tide reveals small pools of starfish, small minnows, and anemones. Up north, ocean swimming is much less susceptible to the tides, and smooth beaches and white sand make for dazzling days in the sun.

Zanzibar Beach Holiday Packages

Enjoy miles of unspoiled white sand beaches and the warm waters of the Indian Ocean. Zanzibar offers a multitude of beach resorts and lodges for those looking for a pre-or post Safari or Kilimanjaro break, whether it's for some rest and recovery on the beach, or time to explore the vibrant reefs and marine life under the waves. Overview !

Explore Zanzibar’s fascinating wildlife on a 3 hours outing that combines dolphin-spotting, snorkeling and Visit the Oldest Mosque in East Africa. You’ll join a guide for a motorboat tour from a coastal fishing village, then don a snorkel to check out the marine wildlife beneath the waves. The shallow coastal waters around Kizimkazi are a favorite hangout for dolphins that come here for the reliable food supply, to nurse their calves, rest and socialize. Several bottle-nose dolphins stay at Kizimkazi all year-round. There are also rather shyer humpback dolphins that put in an appearance here, although their schedule is a little more erratic.

What You Can Expect

Your adventure starts from the fishermen village of Kizimkazi and you will see a foresight of fishermen at the shore while you are on the motorboat going to view and snorkel and spot some dolphins. Several bottle-nose dolphins stay at Kizimkazi all year-round. The dolphin trip starts very early in the morning, because in the afternoon, as the sun rises and the sea water warms, dolphins dive deep down to escape the heat.

Although dolphin spotting is a popular activity, sightings can not be guaranteed and actually managing to swim with dolphins is a rare occurrence as it requires time and patience. The dolphin trip may last about two to three hours with the further opportunity to explore on land thereafter. Kizimkazi is also the site of a 12th century mosque, the earliest evidence of Islam in East Africa and is therefore worth a visit for both cultural and historical objectives.

See the giant land tortoises of Prison Island on a half-day trip from Stone Town, with time to swim, snorkel, and sunbathe. Just a 30-minute boat ride from Stone Town, Prison Island has a beautiful beach, clean water, and fascinating history as a yellow fever quarantine station. Both morning and afternoon departures to Prison Island are available, and the trip includes hotel transfers and all entrance fees.

What You Can Expect

You will be picked up from your hotel and driven to the excursion spot. The Aldabra Giant Tortoise sanctuary is a major tourist lure and the oldest tortoise is 192 years old. The turtles are not indigenous and are magisterial creatures, weighing in at an average of 200 kg some are as old as over 100 years (4 turtles are 150 years). You can feed them at a fee paid at the Island, but watch out for their snapping beaks.

Other marine life is also reasonably rich and Changuu provides good snorkelling. It is by no means the most extensive or varied snorkelling spot off the coast of Zanzibar, but being so close to Stone Town and so easily accessible makes it ideal for those who want to see ‘under the sea’ a little while on a city break. The island’s restaurant, Matthews, is good and well-renowned. This is especially so considering the restaurant’s charming atmosphere and good sea view. You will then be dropped off at the hotel after the excursion.

Have you ever visited a spice plantation? Most probably not. If you are heading to Zanzibar, you should definitely make sure to experience this. Our half day spice tour in Zanzibar is a very interesting one and many tourists decide to book for it. This is especially because being a half day tour they can also book another half day tour and so fill a whole day in a highly interesting way.

What You Can Expect

Since this is a guided tour you can expect a detailed and interesting explanation from the guide about these spices and plants, including what they are used for, how they are grown and so on. Some are even used as remedies, such as the leaves of the neem tree which were found to be very helpful against indigestion and malaria, or the red sap from the iodine tree that helps to fight against infections. Others were used for cosmetic purposes, such as the foaming berries that were used for centuries as an alternative to soap and the cloves from the henna tree that are used to produce dye for the hands and feet. Other popular spices include tamarind, vanilla, ginger, and menthol, to mention just a few.

During this tour you may also have the opportunity of getting a piece of body art made on you. This is carried out by using quick drying Indian ink, instead of henna, which takes longer to dry. You could also see a coconut climber at work, among various other unique scenes that can only be experienced in a spice plantation.

Visit the historic Stone Town of Zanzibar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, on a guided, half-day tour from Zanzibar. With an experienced guide to lead the way, you’ll explore a blend of African, Arab, Indian, Persian, and European cultures, following narrow streets shaded by elegant balconies and verandahs. The Sultan Palace, a series of beautifully-carved wooden doors, Darajani Market also known as Estella Market, the house where Freddy Mercury was born, and an Anglican Cathedral that marks the former site of a slave market.

What You Can Expect

It may not have a particularly romantic name, but Stone Town is the old city and cultural heart of Zanzibar, little changed in the last 200 years. It is a place of winding alleys, bustling bazaars, mosques and grand Arab houses whose original owners vied with each other over the extravagance of their dwellings. This one-upmanship is particularly reflected in the brass-studded, carved, wooden doors – there are more than 500 different examples of this handiwork. You can spend many idle hours and days just wandering through the fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets and alleyways.

Walk by landmarks such as the House of Wonders (Beit-el-Ajaib, a former palace of an early sultan), the Anglican Cathedral built on the site of the Old Slave Market, the Sultan’s Palace (Beit al-Sahel, now a museum), the Old Fort (Ngome Kongwe, built to defend against the Portuguese), the house where rock star Freddy Mercury was born, and a local market that sells fruit, vegetables, and fish. You'll also pass many shops, where you can purchase a variety of goods, from antiques and pictures to traditional clothing and crafts, if you wish.

Overview !

Don't feel sad if you're not a diver! A snorkeling trip to Mnemba Island will definitely satisfy all your wishes to experience a magical underwater world! Mnemba provides the snorkeler with the opportunity to view the best fish the Indian Ocean has to offer. A Marine Reserve, well known for its fish life like lionfish, moray eels, stingrays, and turtles swimming around in the shallows. Venture further out the reef drops away into a big reef wall inhabited by schools of giant trevally and emperor fish hunting, yellow snappers, barracuda and if possible napoleon fish and turtles. The snorkeling trips are accompanied by an experienced guide who will help you find the fish, answer any questions you have about them and ensure you are safe and comfortable.

What You Can Expect

You reach Mnemba Island by boat, mainly from Nungwi, which is a 1h30 drive from Stone Town. It takes about twenty minutes to reach the snorkeling spot from Nungwi. Mnemba Island is a privately owned island with access restricted to guests of the Luxurious & Beyond Mnemba Island. Tour guides will drop you off directly at the reef, which lies a few hundred yards from the small island. Full-day tours (approx. 9am to 4pm) generally include a single snorkeling stop at Mnemba, as well as a lunch break on a nearby beach and a chance to spot dolphins. You will have no trouble booking an excursion on the island. You enter the water from the boat: follow your guide’s instructions.

Mnemba Island is surrounded by an oval reef measuring several miles in diameter, and which is called by some (mistakenly) Mnemba Atoll. Most tour guides will drop you off in the area near the island, famous for its sea beds. The depth of the water is the same in all the reef areas (↕6-16ft/2-4m). You will find yourself above a reef of varying quality (some areas are wonderfully preserved, while others seem damaged by the area’s high visitor numbers). The reef is protected and fishing is forbidden, so the density of fish here is higher than in many other places in Zanzibar. In turn, you will come across shoals of dozens of Moorish idols, snappers, clownfish in their anemones and a host of other species. On the sea bed, look ours for blue starfish, Red-knobbed starfish or the fearsome crown-of-thorns starfish, a poisonous, coral-eating species. Green turtles can occasionally be seen at this spot since they go to the island’s beaches to lay their eggs at certain times of the year.

Access to Mnemba Island is strictly reserved to guests at the hotel. If you set foot on the beach, you run the risk of paying a large fine. In any case, the island coast guards will warn you if you go within 200 meters of the shore. This is the most popular snorkeling spot in Zanzibar and dozens of boats go there each day. Watch out for other snorkelers and swimmers when you are in the water.
