The 7 Days Lemosho Route is one of the most scenic and well-structured Kilimanjaro trekking routes, offering diverse landscapes, excellent acclimatization, and high summit success rates. Starting from the lush rainforest on the western slopes, the route gradually ascends through heath and moorland, alpine desert, and glacial landscapes, culminating at Uhuru Peak (5,895m). This 7-day itinerary includes an extra acclimatization day, increasing your chances of a successful summit while maintaining a comfortable trekking pace.

7-Day Lemosho Route Itinerary

Day 0: Arrival in Moshi/Arusha

Your adventure begins with your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where you’ll be met by our team and transferred to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha. In the evening, you’ll meet your experienced mountain guide for a detailed trek briefing, final gear check, and packing recommendations. Day 1: Lemosho Gate (2,385m) – Big Tree Camp (2,780m)

After breakfast, we drive to Londorossi Gate for registration before heading to the trailhead at Lemosho Glades. The trek starts in dense rainforest, where you’ll see ancient trees, exotic birds, and possibly colobus monkeys. The 6km trek to Big Tree Camp takes about 3–4 hours.After breakfast, we drive for 3–4 hours to Lemosho Gate for registration. The trek begins through the dense rainforest, home to blue monkeys and black-and-white colobus monkeys. The 6km hike (3–4 hours) leads to Big Tree Camp (Mti Mkubwa Camp).

Day 2: Big Tree Camp (2,780m) – Shira Camp 2 (3,900m)

Leaving the rainforest, the trail ascends into the moorland zone. We pass through Shira Ridge (3,500m) before crossing the vast Shira Plateau to reach Shira Camp 2 after a 7–8 hour trek (16km). The views of Kibo Peak are spectacular.

Day 3: Shira Camp 2 (3,900m) – Lava Tower (4,640m) – Barranco Camp (3,960m)

Today is crucial for acclimatization. We ascend to Lava Tower (4,640m) for lunch, allowing our bodies to adapt to the altitude. After a steep descent to Barranco Camp, we arrive after 6–7 hours (10km). The camp is nestled beneath the Barranco Wall, offering stunning views.

Day 4: Barranco Camp (3,960m) – Karanga Camp (4,035m)

The morning begins with the exciting scramble up the Barranco Wall, a non-technical but thrilling section. The trail then descends into Karanga Valley before ascending to Karanga Camp after 4–5 hours (5km). This is a shorter trek, allowing for rest and acclimatization.

Day 5: Karanga Camp (4,035m) – Barafu Camp (4,640m)

A short but steep climb brings us to Barafu Camp, the final base camp before summit night. The 4km trek (3–4 hours) crosses the alpine desert, with increasingly thin air. After an early dinner, we rest before the midnight summit attempt.

Day 6: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)

Summit day begins at midnight! We ascend in the dark, reaching Stella Point (5,756m) at sunrise before continuing to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating at the summit, we descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing to Mweka Camp. This long day covers about 16km in 12–14 hours.

Day 7: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate (1,640m) – Moshi/Arusha

The final descent takes us through lush rainforests to Mweka Gate, where you’ll receive your summit certificate before returning to Moshi or Arusha for a well-deserved rest.

Day 8: Departure Date/Flight Day

A long or short safari and Zanzibar beach holiday adventure can seamlessly be arranged before or after your Kilimanjaro trek with us.
