Materuni Waterfalls, lush coffee farms, and authentic Chagga culture.

Materuni is one of the few villages of wonder in Northern Tanzania sitting at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro. The village is blessed with full of all the beauty worth much visiting for holiday, week-end outing or vacation. While in the village, scenic view of Moshi Town and Mount Kilimanjaro is astonishing. This green village with fresh air from green vegetation’s welcomes visitors to explore the beauty of the land and cultural heritage of the Chagga people.

This very impressive Waterfall is one of the tallest in the area, spewing crystal clear glacier water 70m into its basin. The beautiful path leading to Materuni Waterfall is located 2500m above sea level It crosses valleys and hills covered by tropical rainforest, past coffee, banana and avocado “shambas”, the Kiswahili word for farms.

On a clear day great views of Kibo and Moshi town can be seen. The hike to the base of the Waterfall can be demanding and hiking boots are recommended.

Tour Itinerary

Morning: Departure & Hike to Materuni Waterfalls

Your day starts with a hotel pickup in Arusha or Moshi and a scenic drive to Materuni Village, located on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. Upon arrival, a local guide will lead you on a 1-hour nature hike to the stunning Materuni Waterfalls. The trail passes through lush vegetation, banana farms, and coffee plantations, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Once at the waterfall, you can relax, take photos, and even enjoy a refreshing swim in the natural pool.

Midday: Chagga Cultural Experience & Local Lunch

After the waterfall visit, you’ll return to the village for a traditional Chagga lunch. Enjoy banana stew, rice, vegetables, and local delicacies prepared by the villagers.

Afternoon: Coffee Tour & Tasting

Experience the coffee-making process from bean to cup! Materuni is known for producing some of Tanzania’s finest Arabica coffee. You’ll learn how coffee is grown, harvested, roasted, and ground using traditional methods. The tour ends with a chance to brew and taste your own coffee, accompanied by lively Chagga songs and dances.

Evening: Return to Moshi or Arusha

After an unforgettable day, we drive back to Moshi (30 minutes) or Arusha (1.5 hours), where you’ll be dropped off at your hotel.
